ABOUT THE DOCTOR
Dr. Nancy E. Bass prides herself in providing a full spectrum of gynecological, obstetric and wellness care. She believes in patient focused care and the importance of educating her patients on all available treatment options. Dr. Bass strives to build a nurturing and trusting relationship with her patients. She has an interest in and attends conferences in Integrative Medicine and looks forward to incorporating this into her practice. Integrative medicine uses both traditional western medicine but also utilizes alternative medicine when appropriate. Examples include nutrition, supplements, exercise, physical therapy and chiropractor referrals, acupuncture/acupressure, and meditation. Avoiding just a pill to treat a problem that can be treated by lifestyle changes and education is always preferable. Dr. Bass wants to help enable her patients to accomplish a healthy physical, mental, and spiritual life.
Dr. Bass received her Bachelor of Science from the American International College in Springfield, MA, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Her Doctorate of Medicine was obtained from St. George’s University School of Medicine, where she was in the top of her class, 11th in a class of over 200. She went on to complete her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Summa Health System at Akron City Hospital in Akron, OH. She was awarded two presentations at the resident research conference.
Dr. Bass enjoys spending time at home as well as traveling, sailing, swimming and yoga.
Dr. Bass is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is also a member of the Texas Medical Association, and American Medical Association. She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and is a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider.
Dr. Bass offers minimally invasive surgery options to her patients in order to allow for a faster recovery with fewer complications. These include using the DaVinci Robot to assist with laparoscopic surgeries. Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomies, are accomplished using 4 small incisions. Patients can enjoy an outpatient procedure, many going home several hours after surgery and are returning to work in 2 weeks. They suffer less pain, less blood loss and fewer infections of the incisions; as well as a quicker return of bowel function and are able to tolerate regular diets immediately after surgery.
Robotic Surgery is an advancement and refinement of the laparoscopic technique. During such surgery, tiny incisions in the abdomen are used. The Robot performs the various steps of the operation while the surgeon sits on a console and uses their fingers to direct the robotic arms to perform precisely controlled maneuvers inside the human body. The use of a robot increases the dexterity of the surgeons hands and allows the surgeon to perform complex maneuvers that may not be possible with traditional laparoscopic surgery. It interposes a computer between the surgeons hand and the patient resulting in refinement of the movements, greater accuracy and better control over instruments. The advanced optical system provides a 3-D highly magnified view of the surgical site allowing better visualization than ever before.
Her office is equipped with the latest advances to perform in office minor surgeries including uterine or endometrial ablation for heavy or prolonged bleeding, sonohystograms (specialized ultrasound to evaluate the uterine cavity), Diagnostic and Operative Hysteroscopy, along with the Essure procedure, which is "an incision free tubal for women". Women do not need to take time off or rest beyond a day or two. Most women experience minimal pain during and after the procedure, since it is all performed using natural openings in the body.
Dr. Bass is experienced in the evaluation and treatment of bladder and pelvic prolapse issues. In addition, she is adept at helping women transition through menopause either with or without hormones. Bioidentical and traditional hormones are utilized depending on each individual's desires and needs.
Her goal is to make your visit comfortable and to help achieve balance in your life.
